At Rocky's Fitness Center, we approach assessments with the mindset of "interviewing the body," because we never assume to know more about your body then you do. The RFC assessment process is an opportunity for us to learn about what you need and where you have been by listening to your experiences and observing your body mechanics.

First and foremost, assessments help us serve you better. Starting your training sessions with a clear idea about your personal goals, limitations, and compensations allows the staff to meet your needs efficiently and effectively. It greatly reduces any chance of your trainer giving you an exercise beyond your ability or wasting time learning things about you over several training sessions that could have easily been revealed in a single assessment.

The assessment protocols RFC uses inform the team of trainers of a number of elements:

  • The quality of movement you are able, or not able, to exhibit.
  • Structural points of weakness and postural distortions which may increase the risk of injury.
  • Patterns of compensation where certain areas work harder to overcome other areas of weakness.
  • Which movements would be best suited to not only restore and strengthen but also improve organic function, enhance posture, and reduce both chronic and acute pain.

Assessments are another way we get to educate and empower you. They do the following:

  • Identify your movement patterns(cause).
  • Educate you on how these may create pain, limitation, and future injury (effect).
  • Provide tools specific to decrease or eliminate pain and improve performance (solution).

Seeing that knowledge is power, anyone could benefit from having a deeper understanding of their movement patterns, areas of strength or imbalance, and compensatory patterns. That being said, we do not typically suggest assessments to our group class clients UNLESS there is a history of injury or chronic pain.

So then, who does need an assessment?  Individuals with any of the following:

  • New to personal training/exercise
  • Returning to exercise after a pregnancy or surgery
  • Chronic injury
  • Recurring injuries
  • Joint replacement
  • Specific performance goal
  • Strong inner geek with a thirst for knowledge

In the Functional Assessment, we break away from the body composition, max-muscle tests of yesterday. They merely validate what most people already know: they are out of shape, overweight, feel lousy, and want to be happier, stronger, and pain free.

Instead, we approach assessments like an interview with the body. Utilizing the most cutting edge tools and information, Rocky will lead you through 50 minutes of the following:

  • 3-Dimensional Movement Screen
  • Gait Analysis
  • Static Postural Assessment
  • Micro and Macro Movement Patterns
  • Price - $150

In the same fashion that we are breaking away from the old in our Functional Assessment, we are trailblazing with our Bio-Mechanical Assessment. We continue on with our goal of interviewing the body. In this 90 minute full spectrum assessment you can expect:

  • 3-Dimensional Movement Screen
  • Video Gait Analysis
  • Static Postural Assessment
  • Micro and Macro Movement Patterns
  • Foot Pressure Plate
  • Foot Mobility
