Holistic Health Facility
Your first session at Rocky’s consists of a complimentary consultation where we gain an understanding of your unique needs, and issues, not just your health and fitness goals. After this we schedule a full assessment and its interactions, both to correct weaknesses and muscle imbalances that might be contributing to the problem, and prevent future injuries. Our goal is not just to get you fit. It is to identify your strengths, weaknesses, any past or present injuries, and your own unique patterns of movement. This allows us to design a holistic, personalized program that incorporates the entire body the likelihood of injury, no matter what level of fitness or performance ability. Ultimately, it’s not just about your physical fitness; it’s about your mental fitness as well.
History of Rocky's Fitness Center
March 18, 1996 - Rocky's Opens for Business
After about 3½ years as a personal trainer in the health club, Rocky really wanted to branch out so he could do the things that weren’t allowed in a big box gym — getting people outside and working out where they’re not allowed to go. So on March 18, 1996, on a Monday morning, Rocky opened his own studio with two business partners and one other personal trainer.
Rocky’s first fitness center was about 900 square feet and close to the ocean, maybe 300 yards from the beach. In addition to workouts insides the facility and group classes, Rocky offered a variety of things that he thought he could really expand upon — cooking classes with a chef that came in, running clinics, mountain biking, surf lessons, running down the beach, and clinics to get people ready for the Wharf to Wharf ( a local road race that is held every July). There are stairs going down the cliff that lead to the beach so he incorporated those into the workout. With a harbor nearby, Rocky partnered with a company that rented dual-hulled rowboats and took clients out.
August 11, 2002 – Rocky in Radio
One day in August 2002, a trainer in Rocky’s studio who worked for a radio station down the street came in while Rocky was training the president of O’Neill Wetsuits, Inc. He came up to them and said “Would you know anyone in your company that would do a surf report for the radio station?” The president replied “why don’t you just get Rocky to do it? He surfs all the time and he’s the weather guy, get him to do it.” On that day, Rocky’s Surf & Ski Report on KSCO 1080am got started. Over 14 years later it’s still going strong every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 6:25am.
